“And we should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once. And we should call every truth false which was not accompanied by at least one laugh. ”
-- Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844-1900), German philosopher

Summer Sun

by Robert Louis Stevenson

Great is the sun, and wide he goes
Through empty heaven with repose;
And in the blue and glowing days
More thick than rain he showers his rays.

Though closer still the blinds we pull
To keep the shady parlour cool,
Yet he will find a chink or two
To slip his golden fingers through.

The dusty attic spider-clad
He, through the keyhole, maketh glad;
And through the broken edge of tiles
Into the laddered hay-loft smiles.

Meantime his golden face around
He bares to all the garden ground,
And sheds a warm and glittering look
Among the ivy's inmost nook.

Above the hills, along the blue,
Round the bright air with footing true,
To please the child, to paint the rose,
The gardener of the World, he goes.

Early Summer 2010

Alternating days of hot hot hot heat and blanket-on-the-bed coolness. Ah June. Past Memorial Day now, we can settle into our summer whites, sandal, shorts, and swimsuits (weather permitting). Time for picnics and beach parties - all the joys of summer, including reading under a shady tree with a glass of iced tea close to hand. A beautiful time of year to slow down, relax, and enjoy the fine days and nights.The Solstice arrives on June 21, 2010 at 7:28 AM EDT, and many countries celebrate the longest day of daylight of the year with bonfires and dancing, though I suppose a quiet glass of champagne while watching the moon would not be such a bad idea.

About a week ago Tuka and I took a trip to Atlantic city, not to gamble, but to check out a new accessories show held at Harrah's on the Marina. Neither one of us has been to Atlantic City since we were (practically) kids, and were amazed at its growth and at all the many casinos and shops. Lots of traffic, both car and pedestrian: looks like the economy is coming back. We bought some colorful summer scarves, great fun jewelry and some pretty kimono-style coats which can be worn to dress up any outfit. Hope to have delivery in time for our next shows. Also, we're thinking tie-dye. Not the outrageous tie-dye of the '70's, but subtle colorings which meld into each other - the ombre effect. Look for tie-dye pieces on our racks soon. If we have time before the shows, we will be putting pictures of our new stock on the website.

Speaking of tie-dye, remember a great way to stretch a dollar is to add one or two pretty new pieces to your wardrobe which will mix and match with what you already have. As always, Tuka is happy to consult with you and always has suggestions on how to enhance or accentuate what's in your closet currently. As always, if you are interested in a private showing of any of our lovely "stuff," you are welcome to visit at Elen's home in Coopersburg. Please email elen@elenandtuka.com for an appointment.

One of the latest additions to our good is The Mountain® t-shirt line. Currently we are carrying fairy, goddess, and some Native American designs, at the rock-bottom price of $15 for the classic tee in sizes S-XL. We are happy to order t-shirts in your size and choice of design. Click Here to see a retail catalog of The Mountain's® offerings. Email elen@elenandtuka.com with design number and size and we will order the shirts for you at our low price. We are local to Allentown, PA, and can arrange delivery or pickup for you. NOTE: we just sent The Mountain a large order with many new designs you'll want to check out.

Tuka update . Tuka has moved! She's proud to announce that she now has one whole bedroom for her wardrobe, one of her life-long dreams! When not hanging out at elen and tuka, she's busy traveling all over the state for her work with the Pennsylvania Historical Commission as a lecturer on our local (Pennsylvania) Native American heritage. As some may know, Tuka (or 2Kaa) is a descendant of the Lenni Lenape (Delaware) Native Americans here in eastern Pennsylvania. She is also an accomplished author. Take a look at her first children's book on her Native American heritage, When the Shadbush Blooms, a story of a young girl who dreams about great great grandmother's life and ways through the seasons. An exciting story, beautifully illustrated, the story is a great gift to share with a special child. Click here to read more. Tuka's Web site
